Management of New Seed International, a Ho-based NGO in collaboration with Solace International of USA are constructing a multipurpose palliative care clinic for People Living With HIV/AIDS (PLWHAs) at Sokode near Ho.
The GH¢180,000 (1.8 billion cedis) centre, which is 92 per cent complete would serve as home for rejected PLWHAs, a research centre and HIV/AIDS drug experimental home for health professionals.
It has two wards, a counselling room, conference hall, a store and a childhood development centre for HIV/AIDS orphans.
Mr Livingnus Acquah-Jackson, Executive Director of the NGO said that the project was to provide a stigma free environment for PLWHAs to enhance their socio-economic development.
He observed that stigmatisation of PLWHAs in the society was still widespread making PLWHAs shy away from accessing health care.
Mr Acquah-Jackson said the clinic had facilities to boost the moral of PLWHAs, make them feel comfortable and
introduce them to income-generating activities such as kente weaving and vegetable farming.
He said the centre would be inaugurated by the end of September and available to the public, institutions and religious organization determined to offer spiritual and financial assistance to PLWHAs.
Mr Acquah-Jackson called on the public not to discriminate against PLWHAs and appealed to stakeholders in the health sector to support the clinic.
