Three Nigeriens, who allegedly murdered a retired lecturer in Niger, stole his car and smuggled it to Ghana to sell, have been arrested by Interpol Ghana.
They were arrested when one of them offered the car for sale to a Kumasi businessman.
They are, Munirou Osumanou Sarki, Abdul Rahamana Sarki and Halidu Himadaouda, all in their early thirties.
They are to be sent back to Niger to stand trial.
Briefing the media in Accra yesterday, the head of Interpol Ghana, Superintendent Frank Sammy Kwofie, said that on August 8, his outfit received information from their counterparts in Niger that three men had murdered a retired lecturer, Patrice Bariquette in Niger and stolen his car for sale in Ghana.
He said his outfit relayed the information to police station countrywide, particularly to Kumasi where it was suspected that the vehicle might be sent for sale or be re-sprayed.
Supt. Kwofie said he was informed by the Kumasi Police that one of the suspects, Himadaouda had offered the vehicle, a Suzuki (4x4) for sale to a businessman in Kumasi.
He said the businessman; suspicious of the man selling the vehicle to him informed the Kumasi police who advised him to arrange with Himadaouda to come with the car the next day.
When Himadaouda arrived the next day, he was arrested.
On interrogation, the suspect named Rahamana and Osumanou as his accomplices and led the police to Accra New Town where the two were arrested.
