The banks of the Sabie River are lined with lush, forested shores. The Skyway Trails Canopy Tour experience takes you down into the valley basin of the Sabie to admire this beauty, with an unforgettable aerial adventure.
As the guides explain the zip-lining process to you, you are fitted with top-quality gear and given all the necessary safety information to ensure that all you need to do is enjoy the ride. After a short drive up to the first platform, your harness is attached to the steel cable.
You sink into your harness a little more, to ensure you are properly attached, and glancing over the edge of the platform into the void below, you breathe deeply and try to slow your pulse. You force your eyes ahead and try to concentrate on the lush vegetation around you before gently pushing yourself from the platform.
As you step off the platform, the sudden weightlessness pushes your fear over the edge, as the sensation of falling engulfs you. In that small moment, you fear the worst. All of a sudden, a pull from above sees you flying through the air, legs swinging wildly, trees rushing past you on either side.
A laugh escapes, showing your sudden relief and elation. You glance down and notice the glisten of the water beneath you before feeling the soft leaves of a nearby tree brushing your leg. You look out to the horizon and take in the sea of greenery before slowly tightening your hand around the cable, bringing you to a stop on the next platform, where you are detached.
While waiting for the next slide, you listen to the variety of birdcalls and take time to admire their colours as you spot each bird in turn. The guide tells you the history of a plant that you can't help but remember, every time to spot one. And then it's time for the next slide.
Each slide offers a varying experience, some seeing you whizz along at intense speeds, while others give you the opportunity to admire a particular landmark, ensuring your heart is racing from both adrenaline and joy.
