The mystical golden stool is one of the most important wealth ever in the Ashanti Kingdom.
Without it the history of Ashanti Kingdom is said to be incomplete.
The golden stool is situated in the palace of the Ashanti King, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
Ghana, formerly known as the Gold Coast, was the home of one of Africa's richest, gold dripping empires.
It was one of the main reasons why the Europeans came around this part of the west coast of Africa.
But simply to say, gold is still patrolling in the lands of Ghana including the sea shore of Elmina in the Western Region today.
The golden stool, historians in the Ashanti Kingdom say, is neither man nor machine-made. The stool is made up of original gold from the skies, they claim.
Residents of the Ashanti Kingdom say the mystical Golden Stool came from above through the chants of one of their great traditional priests named Okomfo Anokye.
Okomfo Anokye was said to have made the people of Ashanti believe their souls were protected by the stool and therefore must be protected with all diligence.
The stool is reportedly used in the enthronement of Ashanti kings. The Ashantis are matrilineal - it's the mother's clan that is important, according to travelblog.org.
The golden stool, travelblog notes, was implicated in sparking off the Ashanti War of Independence of 1900 -1901.
"The British had demanded that they should be given the Golden Stool. When no one offered to give them the stool, the British tried to steal it. The war was led by a woman, Yaa Asantewaa, she died in exile in the Seychelles," it said.
The people of Ashanti region are mainly Akans with majority of them being Christians. There are Moslims and Traditionalists in the region as well.
The spectacular Adowa dance of the Ashantis make them unique from other regions.
Their favorite dish - Fufu - tastes great with their specially prepared Abunu-abunu soup. Not forgetting Ampesi with Kontomere stew.
Don't forget to visit any of the gold mines for your pure piece of gold whenever you visit the friendliest country, Ghana.
