The Obuasi Divisional Office of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) is hunting for the Assembly Member for Kwabrafoso East, John B. Mensah, for allegedly defiling a l2-year-old Class Three pupil.
The victim is said to be in a critical condition, and currently receiving treatment at the Edwin Cade Hospital, formerly AGA Hospital.
DSP Sophia Eva Ennim, Obuasi Divisional DOVVSU Commander, briefing the press Monday, described the state of the victim as worrying, adding that she (victim) could not walk when they visited her at the hospital.
She continued that the girl lived with her mother in the same vicinity with the suspect at Kwabrafoso, a suburb of Obuasi. The DOVVSU Commander said on November 17 and 18 this year, the girl was returning from school at about 11:30 when the suspect lured her to his room and forcibly had sex with her.
DSP Ennim added that the girl kept the ordeal to herself, because the suspect had threatened to kill her if she revealed what transpired between them.
But the victim spilled the beans when her mother noticed that she was in pain, and could no longer stand for a long period.
She said her outfit was yet to make contact with the suspect, saying, “we have not seen him for his side of the story, but what I can tell you is that we are after him in connection with an alleged defilement case.”
All efforts by this reporter to reach the suspect have proved futile. The Chronicle is following the story, and will update readers on new developments.
