Juapong based Second Division football club, Great Stars on Sunday began its Middle League campaign with a 2-0 victory over Desert Warriors of Dzodze at the Ho Sports Stadium.
Great Stars took the game to their opponents immediately the referee whistled for the commencement of the game.
They came close to scoring in the 20th and 25th minutes but were denied the opener with timely saves from Theophilus Duorsu in post for Desert Warriors.
Mohammed Hadi, however in the 34th minute got the opener for the Great Stars with a rolling shot, which went beyond the reach of keeper Duorsu.
The defence of the two teams strengthened their rear as the game progressed but it was Great Stars who increased the tally to two through Eric Aryitey who capitalized on a goalmouth melee to slot in the second goal.
As the game was coasting to an end, Desert Warriors increased the tempo of their game with few changes but lacked the bite upfront as they missed golden chances including direct one-on-one opportunities.
