Ghana got their FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifying campaign off to a flying start with a resounding 5-0 victory against Algeria in Algiers.
The Princesses produced a five-star performance to trounce the Algerians in their own backyard on Friday night.
The emphatic first-leg victory puts the Princesses in pole position to sail through to the next stage with the return leg set to be a mere formality.
Striker Olivia Anokye scored twice for 2011 All Africa games silver medalists.
2016 CAF most promising player of the year nominee Sandra Owusu Ansah was also on the scoresheet for Ghana with Grace Asantewaa and Helena Obeng getting the other goals.
Ghana hosts the return leg in a fortnight with the winner facing either Ethiopia or Kenya at the penultimate round.
Two teams will emerge from the African qualifiers to represent the continent at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup scheduled for 7-26 August 2018 in France.
The national U-20 female team are chasing a fifth successive appearance at the global showpiece.
