Alhaji Mustapha Ali Idris, Northern Regional Minister, has urged spouses of the clergy to live exemplary lives in the home to encourage others to embrace the Christian faith.
"As wives of Ministers of the gospel, you should show a difference between your lifestyles and those of the ordinary women because you have the advantage of seeing the light first," said Alhaji Idris in an address read for him at the 4th biennial conference of Ministers' Spouses Association of the Methodist Church of Ghana in Tamale on Friday.
The five-day conference was on the theme: "Witnessing in the power of the Holy Spirit".
The Regional Minister said "as the salt of the environment, you should stand up tall wherever you find yourselves."
Alhaji Idris expressed the hope that after the conference, the participants would be equipped with the skills that would enable them to instill the spirit and virtues of peaceful co-existence, reconciliation and tolerance among people of different cultural and religious backgrounds.
The Right Reverend Joseph Ato Brown, Bishop of the Northern Ghana Diocese of the Methodist Church, commended the association for taking up the challenge to pay the salaries of 10 of the church's ministers serving in Northern Ghana.
He also commended the association for establishing a revolving fund to assist its members to undertake income-generating activities.
Rev. Brown said challenges facing the church in Northern Ghana were enormous and therefore asked the women to encourage their husbands to accept postings to the area to serve the people and win more souls for the Lord.
