The Gomoa District Director of Ghana Health Service, Ms Patricia Antwi, has urged mothers to give their children food containing enough protein to facilitate development of their bodies and the brain.
Ms Antwi advised mothers to make good use of the nutrition centre at Apam to improve the health of their malnourished and under-weight children.
The nutrition rehabilitation centre, constructed by Plan Ghana, a child centered non-governmental organisation, was funded by a Japanese philanthropist, Ms Masayo Matsu Moto, to cater for malnourished children and those of stunted growth.
Ms Antwi stressed that malnutrition retarded growth and urged parents to regard it as a serious health problem, which needed urgent attention.
Miss Mary Enchil, District Nutrition Officer, urged people to erase the notion that mothers who sent their children to the centre did not know how to prepare food.
"Do not let that false notion scare you from sending your children to the centre," She said.
Miss Okine appealed to the Catholic Relief Service and Adventist Development and Relief Agency to help them with food items for the centre.
