Three galamsey operators arrested over the weekend in Wassa Mpohor in the Western region have been granted bail.
Four women and one man died when a pit collapsed on them on Saturday.
Four others are said to be receiving treatment at the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital.
Effia Kwesimintim District Police Commander DSP Ayamga Yakubu said: “They are released on police enquiry bail. We are continuing with our investigation. The post-mortem is yet to be done on those who died.”
Joy News’ Western Regional correspondent Kwaku Owusu Peprah said the scene was gory.
The four miners were trapped to death when a boulder fell on them while they were inside a fairly open pit.
The latest incident is one of several mine collapses in the region. More than eight people were trapped to death in another accident in the region earlier this year.
Meanwhile officials of the Effia Kwesimintim Government hospital tell Joy News two of four of the injured have been treated and discharged whilst the remaining are in stable condition.
