If there was one man Ghanaians did not want to see on the technical side of the Black Stars in the second Kwesi Appiah era, it was Maxwell Konadu.
The long-time assistant had lost fans confidence after a failed attempt to qualify Ghana for the CHAN tournament in 2016.
Having been around the national team since 2012, many had thought the former Kotoko trainer would have acquired the needed expertise to spearhead Ghana’s charge at least on the CHAN front.
But after two CHAN failures and an abysmal showing at a COSAFA tournament, the little faith in the coach seems to have diminished. His most loyal of fans might be running of defense mechanisms to his aid.
Now the suggestions about creating a second assistant for the Black Stars just to keep Konadu around seems to be carrying a bit of weight as his credentials are heavily questioned but in all this, he remains adamant he will stay.
For Konadu, there is no need to leave after months of hard work.
''It's not the matter of quitting, I am not a quitter. I have been with the team and working hard to get the best out of the team,'' Konadu told the media.
''We losing doesn’t mean I should leave the job, I am still the Coach and so I think I don’t have to turn my back on Ghanaians.
''I am not a quitter, we will continue to put things in place and work hard.''
Konadu won the league for Asante Kotoko in 2012 in what could be described as the finest moment of his coaching career.
