Two Navy recruits have been arrested for enlisting into the Ghana Navy with suspected fake certificates.
Gbati Lewis, 24 and Eric Governor Mawuena also 24, were arrested by the Tema Regional Police Command.
Briefing the Times, the Regional Commander of Railway and Ports Police, ACP Richard Nana Asomah, said the two were arrested and handed over to the police last Saturday by a Naval Officer, Sub Lieutenant M. K. Awuah of the Basic & Leadership Training School of the Ghana Navy at the Eastern Command in Tema.
The commander said preliminary investigations revealed that Gbati bought the certificates which was Electrical Part One, two and three awarded by the Kumasi Polytechnic from a young man whom he did not identify at the cost of GH¢300.00.
He is currently in police custody with Mawuena who is yet to admit or deny the allegation.
Meanwhile, investigation is going on and if they are found to have presented fake documents they could be charged and arraigned before court.
Meanwhile, ACP Asomah has advised the general public especially persons who intend to gain admission into any of the security agencies to ensure that their certificates are genuine to avert any trouble.
He also cautioned persons in the business of selling their certificates or issuing fake ones to desist from it or face the full rigours of the law.
The commander also called on the public, individuals and institutions to feed the police with information concerning persons whom he described as miscreants to bring their activities to a halt.
