Paulinho, Barcelona’s first signing after the shocking departure of Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain for a world record fee of 222 million euors, is the club’s fourth most expensive ever.
The club have paid €40 million to Guangzhou Evergrande for the player. The fee is only exceeded by the fees paid for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Neymar and Luis Suárez.
Although it’s still not clear how much Neymar, Barça’s record signing cost, it is thought to be around €88 million. Suárez is the second most expensive signing in the club’s history, he cost €81.25 million in 2014. These two are followed by Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who cost €49.5 million plus Samuel Eto’o (valued at €20 million).
Paulinho will cost the same as David Villa, signed in 2010, and slightly more than Marc Overmars (2000), who cost €36.5 million from Arsenal.
