Former Hearts of Oak coach Serbian Kostadin Papic has been appointed the new head coach for Tanzania’s Young Africans FC popularly known as Yanga.
He takes over next weekend from Uganda’s Sam Timbe who has been handling the team for the last two years.. Yanga secretary general Celestine Mwesigwa disclosed that following days of consultations and deliberations with various stakeholders, they have decided to introduce a new broom in the name of Kostadin Papic in a bid to ‘sweep better“
.
Nevertheless, Timbe who is credited for steering the team to clinch the Cecafa Kagame Cup triumph early this year, told Star Africa that he was not aware of the new developments. “I’m not aware of all this stuff I’m reading in the local papers. I’m receiving so many calls enquiring about my fate but I wish to inform everyone that I’m still the head coach.
I haven’t received any letter or any word about new appointments. But I will abide by whatever decision the management will take.I believe I have done a good job and the record speaks for itself” said Timbe .
Timbe, who also guided Yanga to the 2010 Vodacom Premier League triumph, fell out of the club leadership’s favour after the team’s poor show in their first three or so league matches. But he won some respite recently after he guided his side to win two consecutive matches against Mwanza’s Toto African and JKT Oljoro of Arusha 4-2 and 1-0 respectively.
The Ugandan face baptism of fire on Saturday when his charges will take on their arch rivals Simba Sports Club in a Mainland local derby.
