Aba Preparatory School at Nyakrom near Swedru in the Agona District was last Wednesday attacked by some youth from the town when celebrating its speech and prize giving day at a community park in the town.
Madam Grace Obeng, proprietress of the School, narrating the incident at Nyakrom said the youth attacked the school children on the Victoria Park when the school was half way through the ceremony.
She said the youth started dismantling the canopies, kicking, hitting and throwing any object on sight.
Madam Obeng said the school children, for fear of their lives took to their heels, while parents and invited personalities, including the Central Regional President of Ghana National Association Private Schools left the park to take cover.
She said Mr. John Kwesi Mfuma, one of the teachers with few mature pupils who mustered courage tried to restrain the youth sustained injuries and were rushed to a nearby clinic for treatment.
DSP. Henry Amankwatia, the commander in-charge of Nyarkrom District confirmed the story and said Police, upon tip-off rushed to the scene to maintain law and order.
DSP. Amankwatia said no arrests had been made, but police were able to retrieve some of the school’s items including footballs.
He said Police investigations, after calm was restored revealed that the action of the youth was to enable them to have access to the park for a friendly match between Nyakrom XI and their Zongo counterparts.
