A mother and her four-year-old son last Thursday imitated characters in a classic motion picture by jumping through the window of a vehicle which had run out of control.
The Urvan minibus with registration number ER 9905 C, which was travelling from Ho to Koforidua, had reached the outskirts of Ho when its ball-joint developed a mechanical fault, resulting in the driver losing control and the vehicle veering dangerously off the road.
As panic-stricken passengers sought divine intervention, another breathtaking moment came when the little boy literally flew out through the window when the vehicle hit a tree and came to a stop.
In a similar drama, his mother with whom he was travelling, followed him through the same window and grabbed him across the street to the surprise of other passengers, including the boy's father.
Samuel Akorta, the four-year-old boy, told the Daily Graphic at the Ho Municipal Hospital that his action was borne out of the fact that he had been watching movies and knew that when an accident occurred and smoke started coming out of the vehicle, the next thing was fire and that was why he jumped out of the window.
He was travelling with his father, Mr Samson Akorta and the mother, Ms Agnes Omega, respective citizens of Hedze and Tanyigbe in the municipality when the accident occurred.
There were no deaths but a number of people who sustained various degrees of injury were rushed to the Ho Municipal Hospital for treatment.
According to an eye-witness, a loud noise could be heard about a kilometre away from the scene of the accident and the vehicle zig-zagged as the driver struggled with the steering wheel to keep control.
Finally, the vehicle veered off the road and went over a gutter and finally plunged into a nearby bush.
Spontaneously, Samuel Akorta was seen jumping out of the window of the vehicle and hysterically, ran across the highway with no clear destination in sight.
