Head of Public Relations at Glomobile Ghana, Ekow Quaicoo says George Andah is the overall boss of the company in Ghana.
Pundits have suggested that it did not make sense for Glo to have appointed a Chief Operating Officer (COO) in Ghana when it did not have a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in the country yet.
But Mr. Quaicoo explained to Adom News that “as COO, George Andah is the Country Manager and if you like, the CEO for Glo Ghana.”
He explained that Glo did not describe country heads as CEO’s because they reserved that for the founder and Chairman Dr. Mike Adenuga, but in real terms all the COO’s for the various operations are CEO’s for those countries.
Mr. Andah was Chief Marketing Officer for Ghana’s telecoms market leader, MTN for two years, and moved on to Airtel Nigeria in a similar capacity for one year.
He has only been appointed COO or Country Manager for Ghana recently.
There have been varied comments about his new appointment; some saying it was a strategic move by Glo mainly to break the aggressive market strategy of market leader, MTN, much of which is attributed to George Andah himself.
The questions have been asked whether George would indeed focus on breaking the back of his former baby, MTN, but George told journalists earlier this week he would not focus on what MTN or any other telecom operator is doing, but rather on the customer.
“I know competition will be watching to see what I do, but those who know me know that I always focus on; the customer and [I] deliver what is relevant to the customer,” he said.
Glo has said they would bring real competition into Ghana’s telecoms market, saying they would be aggressive, unique, superior and highly competitive in terms of products, tariffs, services and technology.
