A 37-year-old farmer who thought he had killed his wife after shooting her turned the gun on himself and blew up his own head.
The farmer, Victor Zormelo, pulled the trigger of the same single-barreled gun on himself after the wife, Vida Agbesi, 40, whom he had shot fell down unconscious, bleeding profusely.
The gruesome incident occurred at about 7a.m. Thursday at Ayekokooso, a farming community near Suhum in the Eastern Region.
While the body of Zormelo had been deposited at the Suhum Government Hospital morgue, Vida who was severely wounded was first sent to the same hospital but later transferred to the Koforidua Regional Hospital where she is responding to treatment.
The Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Yaw Nketia-Yeboah, who confirmed the story said a misunderstanding ensued between the couple Thursday morning, during which Zormelo who became furious rushed to his room, brought out a single-barreled gun and shot the wife.
Chief Inspector Nketia-Yeboah said the couple had four children and the eldest, who is 11 years, reported the incident to the police.
The police, according to him, were investigating the incident.
