A woman who had no idea she was pregnant gave birth on a bench in a high street after sitting down with ¬stomach ache.
Jane Eadie, 44, did not feel contractions and thought she had a tummy bug but after resting for an hour feeling ill she stood up and felt her baby coming.
Her son-in-law helped deliver the boy and drinkers from a nearby pub untangled the umbilical cord in the centre of Belper, Derbys.
After going to hospital Mrs Eadie, who has two grown-up children and lives in nearby Langley Mill, said she was delighted about the ¬arrival of 5lb 13oz James.
She said: “I had no idea I was pregnant. But now I’m excited to have a little child to look after again.”
