The Timber and Woodworkers Union (TWU) of the Ghana TUC has now been issued with a fresh Collective Bargaining Certificate to cover all the employees of the Forestry Commission (FC).
In a letter dated July 31, 2007, to the TWU General Secretary, the Acting Chief Labour Officer said the certificate was issued in accordance with section 99 (1) of the Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651).
Mr Joshua Ansah, General Secretary of TWU in a comment of relief said this had finally laid to rest the unfortunate four-year-old controversy between TWU and the General Agricultural Workers Union (GAWU) over the unionisation of workers of the FC.
Mr Ansah expressed the National Executive Council's appreciation to the Labour Department for the exercise, which had "restored the legitimate status quo to their valued membership of the Forestry Commission."
