SESSA games opening ceremony held

The flag raising and openening ceremony of the 25th edition of the Security Services Sports Association (SESSA) Games have taken place at the prisons HQ in Accra. The actual competition will take place from 21–28 October 2011 at the El- Walk Sports Stadium and other designated sports centers. This year’s event will feature participating teams from the Ghana Armed Forces, the Ghana Police Services, the Prisons Services, the National Fire Services, the Ghana Immigration Services and the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority. The sporting disciplines to be contested by both men and women of the various Security Services include football, Volleyball, Handball, Basketball, Boxing, Tug-of –War, Hockey and Athletics. This year’s event is dubbed "SESSA AT 25, Promoting Unity Through Sports". Director General of Prisons who is also the Chairman of the Security Services Sports Council (SESSCO) General Micheal Kofi Bansah urged the security services to use the competition to foster unity and solidarity among its personnel and for the betterment of mother Ghana. "The contribution of the games to the physical and mental well-being of personnel and the development of sports in general, are also enormous so I therefore entreat all the participating teams to ensure that the main objectives of the games are achieved,” General Bansah said. The Deputy Minister for the Interior Kwabena Owusu Acheampong urged the participants to use the event to promote peace and solidarity among themselves. This year’s SESSA Games will be sponsored by, Azar Chemical shied Acrylic paint, Safina mineral water and Glico Insurance.
