Vice President of Ghana Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, who is on his official trip to China, has visited Huawei’s Executive Briefing Centre in Beijing.
He experienced the telepresence video conference system to interact with Huawei Ghana employees and some representatives of the students who have just returned to Ghana after benefitting from the ‘Seeds for the Future’ program sponsored by Huawei.
During the visit, the Vice President held talks with Mr. Li Dafeng, Senior Vice President of Huawei.
In the talks, Dr. Bawumia emphasised that, customer centric culture and the focus on efficient service delivery has been the key driving force in the success of Huawei.
He noted that, Huawei’s contribution towards the development of ICT in Ghana has been very helpful and thus the Government will further leverage on the world-class expertise of Huawei in the areas of ICT to collaboratively build a better connected Ghana.
Mr. Li Dafeng expressed his gratitude to the Vice President for his high profiled commendation of Huawei and said Huawei looks forward to continuing the relationship with the government of Ghana.
He further noted that, Huawei will continue the implementation of existing projects as well as collaborate with the key government ministries and agencies to effectively plan and design solutions needed for the development for ICT in Ghana.
Huawei will also through the ‘Seeds for the Future’ program continue to transfer ICT knowledge among the Ghanaian youth, nurture skills, and make more contributions towards the socio-economic development of Ghana.
Samira Bawumia, Second Lady of Ghana; Madam Sun Baohong, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana; Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Minister of Communications; Mohammed Amin Adam; Deputy Minister of Energy, Mohammed Habib Tijani; Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs; Dr. Charles Dwamena, Deputy Ambassador to China were also present during the aforementioned activities.
After the meeting, Dr. Bawumia and Mr. Li Dafeng, witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for strategic ICT cooperation between Huawei and Ministry of Communications of the Republic of Ghana.
In this light, Huawei will serve as the strategic ICT partner of the Ghanaian government and leverage on the company’s rich global ICT experience to boost ICT development, transfer ICT knowledge and skills, and accelerate the development of the national ICT infrastructure for Ghana.
Huawei entered the Ghanaian market in 2001, its products and services cover the vast majority of the local population.
At present, Huawei is a major player in the construction of a national backbone network, national data centre and e-government platform, and other large-scale ICT infrastructure projects in Ghana.
In addition, Huawei collaborated with Mobile Network operators in Ghana to lay more than 6,000 km backbone network and built more than 3,000 mobile communication base stations to effectively enhance the country's communications coverage and service.
