The Black Stars will be without some key players for the upcoming international friendly against USA and Mexico.
The Ghana Football Association through their spokesperson, Ibrahim Sannie Daara, confirmed reports suggesting Ayew brothers – Andre and Jordan – Daniel Amartey will be absent for the friendlies as a result of their respective clubs demanding their services for pre-season.
He revealed the governing body had received letters from the clubs for their players to be exempted from the two friendly games but was quick to add that they are negotiating to make the trio available for the trip.
“These friendly matches we are playing do not fall within the FIFA date for friendly matches so the ultimate say over whether they should release their players or not but we are counting on the good relationship we have with these clubs to ensure that we get them for the two matches”. He told the media.
The Ayew brothers - Andre and Jordan play for West Ham and Swansea City respectively. Whereas Daniel Amartey features for former Premier League champions Leicester City.
The team resumed training on Monday after their blistering 5-0 victory over Ethiopia in 2019 AFCON qualifier with about five players who were part of the team for the qualifiers absent.
“21 players turned up for training today. Harrison Afful and Jonathan Mensah are with their clubs because their season is not yet over. Afriyie Acquah is injured so he could not turn up for training. Andre and Jordan Ayew are not here because their respective clubs have requested that we excluded them from the friendlies”.
He also confirmed two players – David Accam and Kwadwo Poku - based in America will join the team when they arrive in Connecticut.
Ghana will lock horns with the Mexican national team on June 28th before meeting the United States on 1st July.
