Ghana’s male hockey team gave their campaign at the All Africa Games a major boost after handing out a 5-0 thrashing to host Zimbabwe in Bulawayo yesterday.
Elikem Akaba scored twice with other goals coming from the sticks of Isalbini Saliya, Eddie Frimpong and Matthew Damali.
In a post match interview, attacker Elikem Akaba told JOY Sports, “We played quite well. We kept in mind that if we did the right thing we would definitely come out with a win and we did. Considering the fact that it was the host nation and they had the support behind them, it was tough but we were more determined than they were.”
The victory is a remarkable recovery from last Monday’s humiliating 4-0 loss to powerhouse South Africa.
Ghana has four points now and need a win against continental giants Egypt on Friday to progress to the final.
