Taxi cabs in Techiman Municipality are to be given special identification numbers by the Taxi Branch Union of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union to help passengers to retrieve their missing luggage.
Mr Johnson Badu-Antwi, Chairman of the Taxi branch of the Union, who disclosed this in Techiman said the special numbers would be pasted at the front and backsides of the vehicles for easy identification.
He said the branch Union would also embark on the education of its members at the various stations on road signs.
The chairman explained that there had been complaints in recent times by passengers about their inability to retrieve missing luggage from taxis that they could not easily identify.
Mr Badu-Antwi warned that any driver who would deface or obliterate the new identification number on his taxi would be banned from operating in the municipality.
He commended the government for the rehabilitation and maintenance works on the country’s roads, particularly in the municipality and expressed the hope that the Ghana Highway Authority would maintain potholes on roads to prevent accidents.
The Chairman called on Parliament to enact a law that would make it mandatory for the Authority to regularly maintain potholes to help minimize road accidents.
