Chief Executive of the National Sports Authority Worlanyo Agra has told JOY Sports he expects Ghana’s contingent at the All Africa Games to make a recovery and put up an impressive performance after the disastrous opening two days in Mozambique at the weekend.
The contingent of over 200 athletes and officials were denied suitable accommodation at the Games Village due to failure to pay the participation fee. The blunder forced the sportsmen and women to share only 10 rooms at great discomfort.
Ghana sports officials have finally settled an outstanding 74, 000 dollars arrears from the last event in Algiers four years ago.
Speaking to JOY Sports correspondent Tony Bebli, Chief Executive of the National Sports Authority, Worlanyo Agra said, they have been able to withdraw money from the Bank of Ghana to make full payment on Monday.
Team Ghana have now been reinstated into the Games after a group of media personnel represented the Nation at the opening ceremony last Saturday.
Meanwhile, the national under-23 team are now in a different group in the Men’s football competition following late withdrawals by Libya and Madagascar.
The Black Meteors were originally in Group B alongside Champions Cameroon, Senegal and Uganda but will now compete in Group A against host Mozambique and South Africa. The Meteors will open their campaign against South Africa on Wednesday.
