Mr Mawutor Goh, Ho Municipal Chief Executive has stated that the government recognized churches as key partners in development and would always involved them and other social organizations in its developmental agenda.
Mr. Goh said this when he received 250 wheel chairs on behalf of the Volta regional directorate of the Department of Social Welfare (DSW) for distribution to people with disabilities in seven districts of the Volta region.
The beneficiary districts of the donation by the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints, were Adaklu Anyigbe, Kadjebi, Kpando, Hohoe, South Tongu, Jasikan and Ho.
Each district will receive 30 wheel chairs while the remaining 40 would be distributed to members of the Church of Jesus Christ of later Day Saints with disabilities.
Mr. Goh said the Church of Jesus Chris of Later Day Saints was playing a vital role in the development of the Municipality by providing humanitarian services like restoring all broken down boreholes and donation of medical equipment to the Regional Hospital.
He said the wheel chairs would improve the mobility and facilitate the economic and social lives of the beneficiaries and appealed for their judicious use.
Mr. Barnabas Adjin, Regional Director of the DSW, appealed to government to contribute directly to the growth of people with disabilities through sources such as the GETFUND.
He commended the Volta Regional branch of the Ghana National Trust Fund for assisting the needy in the region.
Mr. Adjin also commended the Church for the donation and appealed to other churches, Non-Governmental Organizations and philanthropists to emulate it.
