Former Presidential Press Secretary and NPP Presidential aspirant, Mr. Kwabena Agyepong, has said he harboured no bitterness against former President J.J. Rawlings.
Mr. Agyepong's late father, then a Supreme Court Judge and three others were abducted and murdered under the PNDC regime led by former President Rawlings.
The mastermind for the murder has not yet been established. Mr. Agyepong told Joy FM’s Israel Laryea on the station’s Super Morning Show that he did not feel bitter about his misfortune, rather he was thankful to God.
He said he was constantly amused by questions of whether he bore the former first couple any grudge.
Kwabena Agyepong said oftentimes he thought it was unfair for those of them who bore the brunt of the revolutionary excesses to be made the villains through such questions and said he was indeed satisfied with his life, especially when as a first-year Engineering student, there was no immediate and clear hope that he would complete his education.
“I don’t breed any vengeance in my soul and in my spirit,…I believe in divinity and the Good Lord in His own infinite wisdom allowed the events of June 13, 1982 to happen, and it is only God who knows why it happened and who did it and would take the necessary action…I don’t want to be caught up in a time capsule, I have moved on, I was 20 years, I am 45, I have moved on in life.
Mr Agyepong has already toured all the 230 constituencies in the country, and told Joy FM the NPP's rank and file is clamoring for a new generation of leaders to take over from President Kufuor.
He dismissed suggestions that the president favours older presidential candidates and said the opportunity to serve the country through the party was opened to all who qualified.
Mr. Agyepong pointed out that low productivity is one of the banes the country was suffering and said one of his priorities if he became president would be to introduce the culture of hard work.
