Micheal Owusu-Peprah (17) has been in Germany barely a month and he has already started testing the tracks of international standards of athletic champions. He has been training with the University Sports Club of Heidelberg (USC-Heidelberg) under the Supervision of Professor Walter Abmayr who is the head trainer of the club.
Apart from Walter, Michael has three other trainers at his disposal with each of them having a special assignment as far as the Athletic Sports career of Michael is concerned. They are Christian Staud, Marius Binder and Robin. These trainers are so impressed about the potentials of Michael so much so that they are seriously working with Michael towards stardom.
At the district level of Baden in Germany, Michael a day after landing on the German soil in June 2011 qualified through the heats with 11:20 to the finals to take the third position with 11:08. The trainers observed Michael during this first completion and each of them identified a special talent about him and started training with him.
Before going to the South German Youth Championships on 20th of August 2011, Marius Binder told this reporter that, he was convinced that Michael would run under the 11 second time line. A month’s training with these trainers has proved the trainers right. Michael ran 11:06 at the heats to qualify for semi-finals in which he ran 10:86 (Wind: -1.2).
After the semi-finals, Michael told his trainers, Christian and Marius that, he was feeling good, and hoped that something would happen in the finals. Within minutes German children started requesting for Autographs from Michael Owusu Peprah.
At 3:35 PM, all was set for the 100 Meter race. Tension caught up with the whole stadium and Michael though did not get a good start, managed to finish with a time of 10:92 (Wind: -1.3) to win the 100 meters race of South German Youth Championship 2011 taking the title from Alex Schaf of LG Sigmaringen who won this race in 2010 with 10:36 (Wind: + 3.0).
