A 27-year old electrician has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by a Kumasi Circuit Court for stealing electric cables belonging to the Ashanti Regional Co-ordinating Council (RCC).
Collins Nyarko pleaded guilty to the offence.
Police Chief Inspector Comfort Baffour-Kyei told the court presided over by Justice Emmanuel Amoh Yartey that the complainant is the head of the Works Department of the RCC where the convict also works.
Nyarko’s job schedule involved fixing of electrical faults in official bungalows belonging to the council.
On June 25, at about 2130 hours, caretakers of one of the bungalows at Danyame, a suburb of Kumasi, heard an unusual noise and out of curiosity came out to find out what was happening.
The prosecution said they saw the convict carrying a fertilizer sack stuffed with electric cables and when questioned he said he cut them from an electric pole.
Police Chief Inspector Baffour-Kyei said he was arrested and handed over to the police.
