Ghana’s Bantam weight champion Joseph Abgeko is upbeat ahead of Saturday’s bout against Mexican Abner Mares in Las Vegas.
The bout is the finals of the Bantam weight four-man tournament which saw Yonnhy Perez and Vic Darchinyan falling to Agbeko and Mares respectively.
Originally set for April 23, the finals had to be rescheduled after Agbeko got injured moments after entering the Los Angeles airport.
The Ghanaian boxer told Joy Sports he is ready for the bout and will not disappoint Ghanaians.
“Like I always say, I promise to defend the good name of Ghana. Definitely I am going to that ring and I make sure I bring back the title to Ghana,” he said.
Agbeko, 28-2 with 22 knockouts called on all Ghanaians to pray for him.
Meanwhile, former WBC World Champion and Ghana’s boxing legend Azumah Nelson described Joseph Agbeko as a good boxer who needs good conditioning on the day to retain the title.
