President Kufuor's son, Edward Kufuor, has denied any wrong doing in a case in which he has been linked to a United States bribery allegation against congressman, William Jefferson.
Mr. Jefferson is being investigated by the FBI for allegedly paying bribes to government officials in Ghana and Nigeria to secure deals for US-based telecommunications company.
The story which first broke in 2005 also named Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama and the then Minister of Communications, Albert Kan Dapaah as some of the officials who were approached here in Ghana.
Both of them denied knowledge of the bribes but admitted meeting the accused congressman at the Castle.
But the FBI says unsealed documents it has show that President Kufuor's son, Edward Kufuor, introduced Mr. Jefferson to Ghanaian officials with a promise to help him.
The documents quoted by "The Times Picayune", a newspaper based in New Orleans, US, describe a plan to steer profits to the President's son so he would push the telecommunications deal.
However Spokesperson on Good Governance and Deputy Information Minister-designate, Frank Agyekum has told Joy News that the President’s son only introduced the congressman to government as a friend but denied taking any money from him.
More soon.
