Fred Pappoe paid for dereliction of duty

The new president of the Ghana Football Association, Mr Jordan Anagblah has said his immediate predecessor, Fred Pappoe, paid a price for neglecting his constituents. There was major and shock change in the hierarchy of the Ghana Football Association in the first meeting of the newly-elected Executive Committee as Greater Accra FA Chairman Jordan Anagblah handed a heavy defeat to Fred Pappoe to be elected the new vice president of the Ghana FA after polling 15 out of the 20 votes cast. The nature and magnitude of the win was so unexpected by connoisseurs of the game that it left everyone stunned. It was expected that Fred Pappoe’s personality and leadership qualities as Black Stars management committee head would hand him a second term but that was never to be. Jordan Angabla who’s a confidante of GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi claims Fred Pappoe paid the fine for neglecting one of his key responsibilities. He said with the exception of the FA President himself and sometimes Fred Crentsil, none of the other Emergency Committee members for five years bothered to carry out their responsibility of keeping in constant touch with the regions to solve their problems, “so I knew very well there will a change because of the anger in the people.” Jordan Anagblah has gained automatic membership to the five-man FA Emergency Committee comprising Fred Crentsil, Felix Ansong, George Afriyie and presided over by FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi. This means Executive Committee members Randy Abbey and Fred Pappoe will no longer serve on the FA Emergency Committee. Former FA chairman Dr. Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe who backed Fred Pappoe for a second term admitted Jordan Anagblah duly deserves to be the second most powerful person in Ghana football. He said Mr Anagblah has been with the Regional Football Associations (RFAs) for some time now and his closeness to the electorate has paid off. Ace sports writer, Kwabena Yeboah believes other factors aside performance may have contributed to Fred Pappoe’s defeat in Saturday’s executive committee election. Mr Yeboah said although Fred Pappoe is a perfect gentleman and very professional, he had been accused “in certain circles of not being particularly affable to people. He is a very, very nice character but sometimes he is close to being an introvert, I mean he doesn’t talk too often, sometimes he prefers to keep to himself so if you do not know him very, very closely you might define his character as somebody who is not very affable and it could work against him.”
