The Mankranso magistrate court has imposed a two million-cedi fine on a 38-year-old driver for driving carelessly and causing harm negligently at Tepa in the Ahafo-Ano North District.
Charles Marfo pleaded guilty and will serve 12 months' imprisonment in default.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Prosper Yao Aheto told the court that on May 29 Marfo, who was driving a taxi from Bredane to Kumasi, knocked down one Afua Agyeiwaa in front of her house at Tepa and sped off.
He was chased, apprehended and handed over to the Tepa police.
The victim was taken to Tepa District Hospital and was referred to the Duayaw-Nkwanta Hospital where she has since been on admission.
