Defender Hans Adu-Sarpei could earn a one-year contract extension if he earns more game time for Bundesliga side Schalke next season.
The 35-year-old’s contract with the Royal Blues end in the summer of 2012 but a clause in his contract entitles him to a new deal if he plays at least 20 matches.
Sarpei made a total of 17 appearances (Bundesliga 9, Uefa Champions League 5 and DFB Cup 2) last season.
The left-back has impressed manager Ralf Rangnick who is ready to use him in the forthcoming season.
Schalke finished a disappointing 14th position but won the German Cup.
