Overview
If you have been with your partner long enough to know he/she is the one, and you want to persuade him/her that you're the one, you will need some tactics to nudge him/her down the aisle. You can provide the push in the right direction by applying certain methods.
Step 1
Ask the one you love to make the marriage commitment. If you are sure you have found the person you want to marry, then you can propose. Don't despair if your loved one claims not to be ready. You can counter his arguments.
Step 2
Maintain your own residence. According to Lori Usher-Pines, author of "The Get-Your-Man-to-Marry-You Plan: Buying the Cow in the Age of Free Milk," if you "play house," it might be difficult for you to ever get your partner to marry you because he will already feel married and not see the point.
Step 3
Ease your lover into a conversation about where he/she sees him/herself in five years. Maybe he/she will include marriage as part of the plan. Mention the possibility of marriage if he/she doesn't so you can gauge his/her response.
Step 4
Extol the benefits of marrying. Reasons for marrying include making a public announcement of your love and fidelity, creating a home together, sharing a name, legal protection of shared assets and the security of knowing your partner loves you enough to enter into a formal union.
Step 5
Issue an ultimatum, if the situation calls for one. According to an article in Cosmopolitan magazine, certain situations require you to nudge your partner strongly. These include when his/her priorities are not in order, when he/she is always indecisive or if he/she is on the verge of reaching life goals (such as finishing graduate school) and still has not proposed.
Step 6
Resolve legitimate issues that can cause a delay in marrying. For instance, hit the job boards and pound the pavement for a job if your lover doesn't want to wed until you are both gainfully employed.
Tips and Warnings
•Spend time with happily married couples to get your partner thinking of the blessings of marriage.
•Don't nag incessantly to get someone to marry you. Too much griping can cause you to argue or even break up other than get you to the altar.
