The South African Football Association is not worried about concerns that they may be implicated in a match-fixing scandal involving Ghanaian referee, Joseph Lamptey.
Referee Lamptey has been banned for life by Fifa for what they describe as having aided in the manipulation of a World Cup qualifier involving South Africa and Senegal last year November.
Referee Lamptey in the game awarded a penalty to South Africa which helped them defeat Senegal 2-1 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
“That is not our issue. It has nothing to do with us. We can’t comment. We played the match and we have no fear of that issue. What happens to the referee involves CAF and Fifa,” said SAFA’s spokesman Dominic Chimhavi said.
FIFA will soon release the full details behind the ban of Joseph Lamptey with reports emerging that South Africa could be affected.
