An 18 year-old boy who allegedly escaped from the Swedru Borstal Institute where he was being kept for defiling a two year-old girl, has appeared at the Wa Magistrate court for defiling a four year-old at Kambali, a suburb of Wa.
Narrating the incident to the GNA at Wa, Mr. Ebenezer Tetteh, Wa Police Public Relations officer said in December 2006, the accused, Majeed Nashiru, was caught having sex with a two year-old girl who bled profusely and because he was then a juvenile, he was sent to the Swedru Borstal Institute for reformation
Whilst there, he escaped from the Institute to Kumasi where he did menial jobs to get transport fare to Wa, his hometown.
He said on July 15, the accused was again spotted by a farmer having sex with another four year-old girl in the bush. Upon medical examination at the Wa Regional hospital, it was detected that the girl had multiple cuts on the vulva.
He was arrested and later handed over to the Wa Domestic violence and Victim Support Unit.
Mr Tetteh said the accused, who was charged with defilement in the Wa Magistrate court, presided over by Nana Rockson Kpodo, pleaded not guilty to the charge and had been remanded in police custody to re-appear on August 1, 2007.
