Harrison Afful sustained a slight knee injury in Columbus Crew SC’s opening game of the new Major League Soccer season.
The Ghana defender featured but was left disappointed as he picked up a knock as well as his side sharing the spoils 1-1 against Chicago Fire on Saturday.
Columbus took the lead but Afful’s Black Stars teammate David Accam equalised in the dying embers of the game for Fire.
Afful lasted the entire duration at the MAPFRE Stadium as the Black and Gold three away a first half lead.
''He has a laceration to his knee. Probably a pretty bad bruise. David Accam tried to back heel the ball and his studs went in to Harrison’s [Afful] knee. And no, it wasn’t malicious or anything,'' head coach Gregg Behalter said in a post-match interview
Afful played alongside compatriots Jonathan Mensah and Mohammed Abu against David Accam .
