The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo, on Wednesday visited his childhood mate, Sir Cecil Jones Attuquayefio at his Kaneshie Estates residence, to wish him a speedy recovery from an ailment that has kept him home for some time now.
The football legend and coach has been sick for nearly two years and has been receiving medical treatment at the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital.
A worried Akufo-Addo said to Mr. Attuquayefio: “I heard the disturbing news when I was on the just ended ‘All hands on deck’ tour of our party and decided to come and see you today, see how you’re doing and wish you a very speedy recovery.”
Nana Addo continues that “you and I go way back since 1962 when we both played for the Real Republikans and I believe this is all what friendship is about; being there for each other, caring for one another and hoping for the best for everyone.”
“I’m happy to see that you are recovering and we will all continue to pray that God restores all your strength so that you can continue very actively with the good work you do for mother Ghana. I’m also happy to see your friends by your side, particularly the indefatigable Rev. Osei Kofi”, noted Nana Addo.
On his part, Akuamoah Toyota, a former Great Olympics and Hearts of Oak player, and a close friend of Mr. Attuquayefio, thanked Nana Addo and his delegation for the kind and warm gesture.
He said Mr. Attuquayefio has been sick for "nearly two years. It was worse last year but thankfully he has been receiving first class medical treatment at the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital and by the Grace of God, he will be fully fit soon."
He continued that Mr. Attuquayefio walks now but his voice, which he had lost, is still really low. At this point, Mr. Attuquayefio interrupted him and said, “once Nana Addo has come to see me today, my voice will also come back soon.”
Nana Addo donated toiletries, drinks and fruits together with a sum of money to Mr. Attuquayefio.
