Fifteen deacons were ordained into priesthood over the weekend in the Kumasi Archdiocese of the Catholic Church at a ceremony at the Saint Theresa's Catholic Church at Asawasi in Kumasi.
They are Reverend Fathers Eric Owusu, George Pascal Seiku Aggrey, Franklin Owusu-Bekoe, Peter Kwadwo Okyere Dadzie, Richmond Osei Amoah, Stephen Bilson-Ogoe, Joseph Adu Owusu-Agyemang, Mathias Baidoo, Peter Opoku Ware and Job Addai Adomako.
The rest are Anthony Kwasi Donkor, Innocent Baba Abagoanie, Patrick Adusei Poku, Albert Owusu Afriyie and Isaac Donkor.
Eight of the priests would work in the Archdiocese, one as a brother of the Missionaries of Charity while the remaining six would serve as Spiritans in the church.
Most Reverend Peter Kwasi Sarpong, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Kumasi who performed the ceremony, urged the new priests to adopt good community relationship to enable them to live in peace with society.
He called on them to let their deeds and activities bring relieve to the trouble-hearted, saying "be the voice for the voiceless and help liberate those being exploited to gain independence".
Archbishop Sarpong charged them to pray to the Holy Spirit to guide them in all their endeavours since they could not depend on their own knowledge and strength in their daily activities.
He advised them to resist all forms of vices which could lead the congregation to loose respect and confidence in them and also avoid any act that could bring the name of the church into disrepute.
The Reverend Father Sebastian Vazhakala, Superior-General of the Missionaries of Charity in Rome, urged the new priests to let their lives be symbols of peace and love, devoid of discrimination and desist from craving for wealth which could divert their focus as priests.
