Berekum Chelsea celebrate premier league success by clinching their debut Glo Premier League title after a home win at the Golden City Park on Wednesday.
Before kick off, the Berekum side knew a win would hand them their first title, but Real Tamale United ensured they did not earn their prize without a fight.
The celebrations only started after an afternoon gripped by tension as a late goal from a spot kick by Emmanuel Clottey secured them a 1-0 victory, with the sound of the final whistle crowning them champions even with three games to spare.
Chelsea's victory dwarfed the impact that the result of the late kick off clash between Asante Kotoko and AshantiGold could have had on the title destination as both sides could only draw goalless at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Kotoko still remains second on the table despite being level on points with the Miners.
However, both clubs would continue to play for second place which automatically represents a continental slot.
With the title decided, the same cannot be said for the race to avoid relegation.
King Faisal gave themselves a major lift with a 1-0 away win against B.A. Stars though they are just two points above the relegation zone.
The red and white side of Berekum have no cause to celebrate today as Arsenals lacked enough motivation and firepower to prevent a 5-0 mauling at the Robert Mensah Stadium by Ebusua Dwarfs.
Dwarfs hit their highest goal tally this season through a Bismark Aseidu brace and strikes from Michael Insaidoo, Nicholas Gyan and Seidu Bansi to leave the Gunners one point above the drop zone.
Hearts of Oak were 2-0 winners at the Gyemfis Park over New Edubiase to move 10th on the standings.
Douglas Nkrumah and Moro Abubakari scored for the Phobians.
Wa All Stars were handed the blues at home where they lost 2-1 to Heart of Lions.
Gilbert Fiamenyo put the visitors in front before Daniel Bonsu scored the second with All Stars getting a late consolation.
Daniel Darkwa's only goal at the Dormaa Park handed Aduana Stars a 1-0 win over Medeama SC.
At the Carl Reindorf Park, Liberty Professionals were undone by a first goal by attacker Aaron Amoah to hand Mighty Jets a 1-0 win as they battle to avoid relegation.
