The Paramount Chief of Nsein Traditional Area in the Western Region, Awulae Agyefi Kwame III, continues with his resolve to mount pressure on six of his colleagues to refund monies collected from the Western Regional Coordinating Council without executing the traditional functions for which the monies were paid to them. The crusading chief had pointed out that the RCC gave out the said monies to the six chiefs for them to take part in the Ghana@50 celebrations but they failed to do so and were still keeping the monies which he said ranged between three and seven million cedis, instead of refunding the amounts they received back to government chest. He told The Chronicle in an interview on Thursday that he has not given up the fight for the chiefs to pay back the money to the RCC as a way of ensuring discipline and maintaining the dignity of the chieftaincy institution. According to him after he had gone public with the conduct of the chiefs and followed up with an official petition to the President of the Regional House of Chiefs, Awulae Attribukusu III, a committee was set up to look into the issue. Awulae Agyefi regretted that up to date, the committee had not met to discuss anything about the petition. The crusader who was speaking in a telephone interview with the Chronicle, said because of the failure of the committee to look into his petition he would raise the issue for discussion on the floor of the House of Chiefs during their next meeting. “I think this is an internal matter and I will give respect to my colleague chiefs. So I will raise the issue at the House of Chiefs meeting so they can have the opportunity to contribute on the matter at the next sitting of the house so that we will all know what they also have to say to the charge,” he said. It would be recalled that in March this year, Awulae, Agyefi Kwame, went public to accuse some of his colleague paramount chiefs who for dishonestly receiving public funds. Source: The Chronicle
