There’s an African proverb that says “all journeys will lead you to where you started from”. Perhaps better than most, this proverb encapsulates Kwaku Sakyi-Addo’s nearly thirty years love affair with journalism.
On May 24 2011, ace journalist Kwaku Sakyi-Addo will retire from professional media practice.
Although his retirement was to be expected, the pangs of this separation have not been numbed by its inevitability. Sixteen years of his illustrious career have been in serving with Joy FM, fourteen of which have been as host of current affairs talk program “The Frontpage”. A gifted communicator Kwaku Sakyi-Addo added great depth and professional gravitas to the show.
His patented throat-clearing stints became part of his signature, inspiring awe and excitement in his audiences.
In many regards Kwaku stands out among his contemporaries, not the least of which is his ability to simplify the most intricate matters into simple soluble themes, making his interviews an immediate catch-on for listeners of all categories.
Undoubtedly one of Africa’s best broadcasters, Kwaku Sakyi-Addo is also a Communication Specialist and two-times Journalist of the Year in Ghana. He would have been a three times consecutive winner had he not declined to accept it. With a successful career in journalism spanning nearly thirty years, Kwaku has worked as BBC correspondent in Ghana for 13 years and Reuters News Agency for eight years, leaving both jobs in 2007.
