Seventy trainees of the Auxiliary Health Workers module of the National Youth Employment Programme in Gomoa District, have received 8,400 Ghana Cedi or 84 million cedis as allowance for three months.
Each of them received 120 Ghana cedis or ¢1.2 million.
The Auxiliary Health Workers are being trained for six months to assist health personnel at facilities in the district.
They will receive two weeks tutorials and four weeks practical at health facilities every quarter of their training.
Addressing the trainees, the Gomoa District Chief Executive, Madam Joyce Aidoo, urged them to show their appreciation by taking their training seriously to achieve the purpose.
She warned that they would be dismissed if they broke regulations of the Ghana Health Service.
She advised: "Do not let us hear complaints of rudeness and insubordination that we have been hearing about some health workers from you."
Mr. Christopher Appiah, District NYEP Coordinator, expressed satisfaction about the level of cooperation between the facilitators and the trainees.
He appealed to the government to extend the period of training to about nine months to enable them to grasp basic health delivery well.
