Airtel Ghana has appointed Mr. Donald Gwira as the new Head of Corporate Communications and External Affairs.
He takes over from Carmen Bruce-Annan, who crossed over to competitor Vodafone months ago.
A statement from Airtel Ghana said Mr. Gwira would lead the engagement with the media and other stakeholders of the company.
It said Mr. Gwira joins Airtel with a wealth of corporate experience from Guinness Ghana Breweries Ltd., where he managed the Corporate Communications function.
“He was instrumental in engaging the media and that led to a Ghanaian business journalist winning a category of the Diageo Africa Business Reporting Awards (DABRA) for the first time in its history,” the statement said.
The statement said in the last six months, Mr. Gwira doubled as Corporate Citizenship Manager for Guinness, driving the company’s flagship corporate social responsibility programme, Water for Life, which will be providing clean water to 100,000 Ghanaians.
Prior to Guinness, Mr. Gwira held various positions including Communications Manager for West Africa at Sightsavers International, where he led the public relations campaign across West Africa.
In 2004, he was recognized as one of 36 exemplary leaders in a book entitled “Leading Coherently: Reflections from Leaders Around the World.
Mr. Gwira is a member of the Executive Council of the Institute of Public Relations, Ghana and holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Affairs from American University in Paris, France and a Masters degree in Political Science, majoring in International Relations from Howard University in the United States of America.
