Dating according to your usual type (height, build, profession, personality) is common. We all do it, and we have types for a reason: They’re the guys to whom we’re most attracted. The problem is that it can close you off to other potentially rewarding relationships. We encourage you to date someone who doesn’t fit into your usual criteria, just to see what happens. Here’s why.
1.You might meet someone great.
You may think you could never hang out with someone who doesn't match your idea of Mr. Right, but you'll never know unless you try. If you give yourself a chance to date someone outside your normal realm of romantic possibility, you just might meet someone great.
2.You could learn something.
When we date people who are like ourselves -- with similar ideas, beliefs and goals -- our perspectives on life don't change much. Dating someone who thinks differently, however, can help broaden our horizons and change the way we think about certain things.
3.It might be interesting.
Dating the same types of guys over and over can get boring. Bust out of your romance rut by saying yes to someone you would normally turn town. Even if you don't fall head-over-heels-in-love, you may have a good time, learn something new and be inspired by a person with whom you ordinarily would not have spent time.
