One of the best farmers in citrus in the Eastern Region, Mr Patrick Ofori, has appealed to fruit processing factories in the country to buy their produce for processing.
Mr Ofori made the call when he took the Ghana News Agency round to inspect about 200 acres citrus farm at Yawkoko in the Suhum-Kraboa-Coaltar District.
Oranges estimated to cost over GH¢10,000 had gone rotten due to unfavourable marketing conditions.
He noted that due to the lack of buyers from Accra, Nsawam and other marketing centres, most of the farmers had lost interest in citrus farming in the area.
Mr Ofori said the situation had brought untold hardships to the farmers and their families who could not afford to pay their children's school fees and cater for other needs.
He called on fruit processing factories, especially Pinora fruit factory at Asamankese, to assist by buying their produce to alleviate their plight.
