The 2011 President of Junior Chamber International (JCI), Mr. Kentaro Harada will pay an official working visit to Ghana from April 1 to April 4, 2011 to meet with JCI members, business leaders and Civil society to engage young people with the JCI Mission and Values.
Kentaro Harada would engage the government of Ghana with the Millennium Development Goals, the UN Global Compact and the Japanese OMOIYARI spirit of mutual understanding working in collaboration with young, active Ghana and JCI members.
The engagement, according to a press release, will seek to create a partnership that will identify and provide creative solutions to problems in communities throughout Ghana.
Kentaro Harada, nominated by JCI Japan, was elected 2011 JCI (Junior Chamber International) President at the 65th JCI World Congress held in Osaka, Japan, in November 2010.
Born in 1972 in Kagoshima, Japan, Harada holds a Bachelor of Law from Waseda University. He has also earned a Certificate of Special Studies in Administration and Management from Harvard University Extension School.
Harada serves as the president of Harada Kogyo Co., Ltd., a steel processing firm specializing in steel coils and furniture manufacturing and transportation.
He is a member of the Fukuyama Kita-Kai, a group that preserves the traditional Japanese musical drama form, Noh, and is a member of the National Association of Underwater Instructors. Harada resides in Fukuyama City, in the Hiroshima Prefecture of Japan with his wife Makiko and daughter Sawako.
Harada joined JCI Fukuyama in 2001 and became 2007 JCI Local President after serving as 2006 JCI Academy Commission Chairman.
At the international level, Harada served as 2007 JCI Asia-Pacific Development Councilor and 2008 JCI Vice President. In 2009, he served on the JCI Board of Directors as Treasurer before becoming a JCI Executive Vice President in 2010.
Harada has attended 15 JCI Area Conferences and seven JCI World Congresses and graduated from the 16th JCI Academy in Nagano. He is a Henry Giessenbier Fellow with the JCI Foundation and has been honored as JCI Senator No. 67121. He speaks English and Japanese.
As JCI President, Harada will travel extensively to JCI member organizations. His visits will aim to promote the JCI Mission and inspire action among JCI members, JCI partner organizations, heads of state and community and corporate leaders.
Harada believes young people must lead the world to sustainable peace through the Citizens’ Initiative, in which individual citizens rather than nations take action to achieve human security and the UN Millennium Development Goals.
He will preside over the 66th JCI World Congress to be held in Brussels, Belgium from November 1 to 5, 2011.
JCI is a worldwide membership-based non-profit organization of young active citizens aged 18 to 40 dedicated to creating positive change.
Through projects in more than 5,000 communities across over 100 countries, members seek targeted solutions to local problems to create
a sustainable global impact.
