Ghana midfielder Michael Essien has ended the misunderstanding with his father amicably after the Chelsea star phoned his dad this week.
The world-class midfielder has resumed his support for the elderly man after the conversation to iron out their differences ended well.
Mr. James Kweku Badu Essien, an ex-footballer, turned to the local media for over one year claiming the Chelsea star had neglected him, a charge Michael denies.
Things got to a head last week when the father threatened to send the Chelsea star to court to stop him from using the family name.
James, who played for Hearts of Oak in his playing days, was angry that the pair have not been in contact for a decade.
But the Chelsea star has called the father to have the issue resolved with James insisting everything is okay.
“My own son Michael Kwabena Amponsah Essien phoned me yesterday and we spoke at length,” James Essien told Asempa FM.
“There was a misunderstanding between us but I want the world to know that we have solved this issue as father and son.
“I am very happy that my son took the bold step to call me for us to solve this problem. All the problems have been solved. May God bless him.
“I will never go to the radio station again or newspapers to talk about Michael in derogatory terms again.”
